Sydney’s iconic Hopetoun Hotel has shut its doors, with all future shows booked at the legendary venue cancelled indefinitely.
A seemingly innocuous tweet by agent @ford_davis around 6pm last night led to cries of disapproval and abject anger from the local community who have enjoyed many a memorable gig at the Hoey over the years.
Within minutes, a facebook group was set up to gather ideas on realistic ways people can help save the venue (at time of writing, the group has grown to 2,200 members). It has emerged that the reasons for the closure range from lack of security, compliance with safety, and money. Lotsa money.

- Join the facebook group. Contribute realistic ideas.
- Follow @savethehoey. Look out for events. Attend the events.
- Tell your friends, parents, workmates, lecturers.. anyone who has ever walked out of a gig at the Hoey thinking it was the best night of their lives.
